Medicare Premium Hype

Medicare monthly premium will be $88.50 for 2006, an increase of $10.30 from the $78.20 premium seniors paid last year. That’s a total increase of $123.60 a year and the new deductiable is $124. Total out of pocket for Meidcare is less than $250..

Premiums are going up, but “most Medicare beneficiaries will see significantly lower out-of-pocket health care costs in 2006 because of the savings in drug costs from the new Medicare prescription drug benefit.” Also, about one-fourth of beneficiaries can receive assistance that pays for their entire premium.

As Medicare costs go up why shouldn’t seniors have to pay a bit more? One-hundred and twenty-five dollars a year seems like a good deal to me. Really poor seniors don't even have to pay. So what are these people tetchy about?

Here’s a guy, calling himself DBK, writing about how hard working and wonderful his in-laws are, yet complaining about the increase in Medicare premiums:

It gets to be personal after a while, after you see the effect these mean-spirited, greedy, petty, pipsqueaks, these fractions of a human have on so many other people, and how these pipsqueaks do so much harm when they play politics with other people's lives.

They'll send your children in the way of bullets with one hand and take the food and medicine off of your in-laws' kitchen counter with the other. Then they'll send out a newsletter to tell you why it's a good thing they did that, all the while pretending that sick and impoverished senior citizens will save you money.
You should know his “father-in-law still plays golf every chance he can get”. Not exactly what I would call impoverished. Still, it makes you wonder why this guy thinks we should care more about his in-laws than he does. And who’s he calling greedy? If he really cared and if his in-laws needed help, why doesn’t he give them the extra $250? DBK is what I would call a “mean-spirited, greedy, petty, pipsqueak.”

Oh well, consider the source, as my momma always told me. The guy’s blog address is frogsdong, I kid you not, and he gets his news from a website called Dump Mike - a blog devoted to complaining about New Jersey Congressman Mike Ferguson. It’s actually some sort of “spam blog” asking for contributions in the range of $50 to $5000 that’s supposed to be used to defeat Ferguson. Sounds like a scam to me.

A guy named Michael Pratt is mad at Ferguson for voting in favor of a money saving bill that included the increases in Medicare premiums. Pratt says the bill “comes down -- and hard -- on poor senior citizens” and “makes it necessary for some elderly citizens to have to sell their houses to get the care they need to survive.” I still don't see what's wrong with people getting the benefit paying for some of the cost increases.

Old people in New Jersey are forced to sell their houses to get out from under the high property taxes, not because they have to pay an extra $123.60 a year for Medicare. What fool is going to send these guys money to help elect someone who will vote to raise taxes? I already pay enough for taxes, thank you. I think we need more Congressmen like Mike Ferguson.

This is why it’s important not to believe everything you read. I’ve learned you’ve got to do your own research and not take the word of people who only give just one part of a story. Like I said, we need to make some changes in New Jersey and one is to start calling out people who stretch the truth.

Yeah, my father-in-law plays golf every chance he can get. Guess how often that is with the stroke he had in 2000 and at age 75? Guess how expensive that course he plays at is? He pays $15 for a round. Oh, but I guess that's way too good for him to play every so often for a whole $15. He should be miserable as possible.

You have a problem with what I said then that's fine, but you don't attack my father-in-law for his miserable $15 round of golf every so often when he feels up to it and can find someone to watch my mother-in-law. You certainly make my remarks about mean-spirited, petty people ring true. Let me add another: you're a prick. Now go ahead an ban me for using a word that describes you accurately.

Oh, and I am sorry that my in-laws manage to find some small pleasure in life instead of being ground entirely under the heel of poverty for your satisfaction.

Prick.

Oh, one more thing. I ought to mention that I spent a good part of yesterday afternoon with my mother-in-law at the hospital where she's been since Friday. And one more thing: I didn't write at all about increasing premiums, you lying sack of shit. I was talking about the proposed cuts in the program funding. If you actually paid attention you might have seen what I was writing about, but you apparently were so offended by the notion that my father-in-law actually gets to play a round of golf every so often that you just couldn't stand it and had to ride your own little petty hobby-horse over it.

I just hope you never have issues like these to deal with so you can continue to put down other people for trying to help others.

d some more of your blog and see what a complete shmuck you really are. You wrote, in your very first post:
"I am sick of working hard and paying my taxes to see people always asking for more. If you don't finish school and don't want to get a job, why am I supposed to be supporting you? It's all a big scam with politicians pretending to care about poor folks. Most folks are poor because they try to take the easy way out and don't care about the future."

You are so full of shit it is beyond belief. You are completely and entirely ignorant of the nature of poverty in this country and the facts. Go read something and get some information. Have you ever heard of the "working poor"? There are tens of millions of them. Try this on for size: 60 hours a week at minimum wage. That's $309 a week to clean bathrooms, make beds, and haul bukcets around in the hotels where you go on vacation. If you don't take any time off all year, you get a whole $16,068. For a sixty hour week. You live in New Jersey. Tell me how well you can live in New Jersey on that. Oh, but they ought to buy stocks and bonds on it, I am sure. You have no clue. You think you have it hard. You have no clue at all. And you don't know the first goddamned thing about my in-laws and have no right to criticize them for anything. You don't know anything about how hard they worked all of their lives, but I guarantee you never worked a single day as hard as they worked every single day of their lives.

Aw, but heaven forbid someone get a little help. Better that they give out corporate welfare, I am sure. You complain about how my in-laws, hard-working people their entire lives, get some help from Medicare, but you didn't write a single word about an energy bill that gave hundreds of millions of dollars to the oil companies last year. Not one word about that. Bet you were deaf the night they announced on the news that Exxon made $11.7 billion in profits last quarter.

I think you should give up blogging until you get some actual information. I am sorry I called you a prick. You're just ignorant.

Are you aware that because of federal incompetence, over $300 million worth of trailer homes that were bought for the evacuees of Hurricane Katrina are sitting in Arkansas and rotting and are becoming rapidly worthless? $300 million because the GOP can't run the government worth a damn and the clowns who came in promising that they would run the government like a business have run it like a business destined to fail, and it is failing since the debt is sky-high, but you bitch and moan because my father-in-law manages to find someone to sit with my mother-in-law every now and again when the weather permits and spends a whole $15 on himself for a round of golf. A 75 year old man with health problems and he is primary care-giver to a 74 year old woman with Parkinson's who also had a stroke five years ago. My mother-in-law broke her hip two years ago and had to spend 100 days in care at a facility. But it might have cost you a few pennies so let her die, right? Are you aware that the Prescription Drug Bill that was supposed to be a great thing was actually a huge boondoggle? Did you know that bill makes it illegal for the government to negotiate a better price for the drugs we pay for? Yeah, but my father-in-law gets to play a round of golf every so often, so that's what puts the bug up your ass. Did you know that $9 billion went missing in Iraq and nobody can account for it and nobody ever will? That's $9 billion of taxpayer money, but if my father-in-law got ten rounds of golf in during the past year instead of none, that's an issue with you because you work so hard and pay so much taxes. Did you know that the average person who earns more than a $1 million per year pays 23% in taxes because of tax loopholes? I certainly don't earn anywhere near $1 million a year but I pay more than that in taxes. Oh, but bitch some more about my father-in-law playing golf. I'm surprised you don't complain that my mother-in-law, who is a veteran by the way, had the nerve to stay alive. Did you know that 62% of American corporations that make more than a billion dollars in profits per year paid no taxes in 2004 because they had PO boxes in places like the Cayman Islands so they could claim they are not American companies, and that Halliburton is one of them? And that they all get government contracts and take the taxpayer money and give nothing back? Yeah, but that father-in-law of mine, he played golf last year. The rat. He is the reason you have to pay so much in taxes, right? My father-in-law is the problem. Right. Stop being so ignorant and you wouldn't have to be criticized for it.

And you even get on the fricking blog address? You complain about that? Not only that, you complain about the site where some of the info came from, but being ignorant, you are unable to show any of the information is incorrect. In fact, every word from that site is correct and if you bothered to look further instead of just bleating you would see that the information at Dump Mike comes from primary sources and that people who write blogs are actually gathering information and doing research and know what they are talking about.

Stop making a fetish of ignorance.

Here is what I actually wrote:
* Higher Medicaid premiums for all recipients -- senior citizens, widows and the disabled -- and freezing payment to home health care providers, two changes that will make it harder for senior to afford to stay in their own homes instead of being forced into nursing homes;
* Allow health care providers to deny care to any Medicare recipient who can't afford to pay required cost-sharing, denying poor and indigent seniors needed medical care;
* Increased Medicaid prescription drug co-payments for benefit recipients and reduced payments to pharmacists, moves that the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office says will increase costs for 1.3 million Americans, half of whom live in poverty ;
* Remove seniors from eligibility for Medicare if they had donated significant money to charity in the previous five years;
* Count the equity in a home as wealth for determining if someone is eligible for Medicare, forcing seniors to sell family homes to receive benefits;
* Reduce student loan funding by $12 billion, increasing the interests rates and repayment costs for recent graduates; and
* Federal funds intended to help force deadbeat dads to pay for children they fathers was cut. That's right, they reduced money to help single moms force the father of their children to pay child support.

I was wrong about one thing in my comments. I was complaining about the increase in payments, but anyone who thinks ten dollars a month sin't a big deal is ignorant of what many elders and indigent have to deal with. But that's fine. Because we need a 6.9% increase in the more than $400 billion military budget, even though the existing busget is greater than the military budgets of the next 18 highest military budgets combined. Let those Halliburton execs get their private jets because, well, granny is a great cook. She can make dog food taste like filet mignon.

I did not pick on your in-laws. I don’t care how they choose to spend their money or how many times a year your father-in-law plays golf. That’s their business, but you brought it up on your blog. So don’t blame me for pointing out a man who “plays golf every chance he can get” doesn’t sound impoverished. It was an observation, not a criticism.

You call me and others names, change the subject, point fingers at everyone, but nothing you wrote addresses the basic question. When costs go up for Medicare why shouldn’t seniors pay a bit more?

If you bothered to read what I wrote, with a primary reference link, you’d know people who can’t afford their premiums can have them paid 100% by the government. Almost 25% of seniors have their Medicare premiums taken care of this way.

You haven’t answered my question. If your really care about your in-laws and they actually need help paying the extra $10.30 a month for their Medicare, why don’t you give it to them? I think you’re mad because you don’t have a good answer and because you came off looking like a “mean-spirited, greedy, petty, pipsqueak” for wanting other people to pay what you are unwilling to give for your own family.

I don’t need lectures from you about poverty. I’ve seen it up close and personal.

You lying, dishonest little prick. You changed your posting! You originally wrote that people were poor because they were too lazy or too stupid to work, and you changed your posting and took that out. You never had a word in your original posting about ME giving my in-laws the money for higher premiums, but now you have something in there. If your readers ahve any smarts, they'll ask themselves why, if you had that in originally, I didn't address it. You are a lying prick. Bloggers don't do this stuff, at least bloggers who stick around. You won't last in blogging, pal, because you're a lying shit. You actually changed the posting after the comments. What a low-life.

I should read the commnts to see if you changed them too, but I won't bother. You'll probably change this comment too.

See ya, lying dickhead.

Nothing has changed in this posting. My readers will know why you didn’t address my main points and answer the questions posed. You don’t have any good answers. Instead you’ve called me names and pointed fingers at everyone but yourself.

In your second comment you wrote "I didn't write at all about increasing premiums." That's how you tried to get out of answering my question when you started. In your sixth comment you wrote "I was wrong about one thing in my comments. I was complaining about the increase in payments…" Still not answering my question and overlooking my point about the government paying premiums for seniors that can't afford them.

The questions I posed still stand. 1) If Medicare costs go up why shouldn't seniors pay a bit more? 2) Still, it makes you wonder why this guy thinks we should care more about his in-laws than he does. 3) And who's he calling greedy? 4) If he really cared and if his in-laws needed help, why doesn't he give them the extra $250?

In my first posting I wrote "I am sick of working hard and paying my taxes to see people always asking for more. If you don't finish school and don't want to get a job, why am I supposed to be supporting you?" It still says that and you were aware that I wrote it my first posting and not in this one. Just look at your third comment above, you pointed to my first posting and quoted those words.

I may be new to blogging, but I don't see any way I can change your comments. I see that I can delete them, but I can't change them. I think everyone reading this will know you’re not telling the truth. You keep changing your stories.

You've be johnin me as :"mean-spirited; greedy; petty; pipsqueak; you're a prick; lying sack of shit; complete shmuck; full of shit; entirely ignorant; you have no clue; you never worked a single day as hard as they worked every single day of their lives; you're just ignorant; stop being so ignorant; stop making a fetish of ignorance; you lying, dishonest little prick; you are a lying prick; you're a lying shit; and lying dickhead."

There is not one thing in my posting that is a lie and you know it. You have not addressed a single point or question I raised intelligently. But I think I have your figured out. You are a bigot. You think I'm an uppity black woman and you're mad because I won't tow your party line. I'm off the plantation, get used to it.

Blog about development development estate land planned real use

Hi

Enjoyed the blog - nice to see someone else has activated their anonymous feature ;-)

I'm interested in investing in the real estate market in the US and am looking for some really cheap repossession properties in Beverley Hills, Santa Barbara, Denver, Colorado, San Francisco, Fort Lauderdale, Iowa, Hawaii, British Columbia, New Jersey, New Hampshire, New England, Minnesota, Miami, Florida, California, New York, Washington, Dallas, Texas, Chicago and Los Angeles. I've found a couple of really good sites - Bargain network which has some really cheap homes and Texas Ranches for sale - ranches in Texas plus both sites have beachfront villas and cars that have been repossessed and are really cheap!! Just wondering if there are any more sites like this.

Thanks for this.
